Protesters in Abuja, like totally went all out and stormed the big boss office of Guaranty Trust Bank, demanding the release of this dude named Martins Otse, who goes by the super cool name of VeryDarkMan. They were all like, “#FreeVDM” and had signs that said stuff like “Activism is cool”, “VDM is our hero”, and “VDM did nothing wrong”.
So, like, VeryDarkMan got nabbed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for cyberstalking or whatever. This made a lot of people on the internet super mad, you know. They were all like, “Hey, is the bank in on this too?” Critics were all talking about some targeted crackdown.
His lawyer dude, Deji Adeyanju, said VDM got jumped by EFCC peeps at the bank, but then the bank was all like, “Nuh-uh,” and showed some video footage of him leaving the bank before getting arrested. But, like, the cameras didn’t catch the actual arrest because they weren’t covering that spot outside the bank.
Back in May 2024, VeryDarkMan was taken to court and charged with cyberstalking, which was about him supposedly harassing the police and some actresses online. He said he didn’t do it and got locked up until his bail hearing. Then, in November 2024, he got hit with more charges for pretending to be a cop. He denied it again and had to pay ₦2 million for bail.
The whole thing is pretty wild, right? Like, why are people so obsessed with this VDM dude? I mean, cyberstalking and impersonating a cop, that’s some serious stuff. But hey, who am I to judge? People seem to really dig him. Let’s see how this all plays out in the end.
